About Bellis Counselling
My approach to counselling is designed to ensure maximum comfort for clients, allowing ample time to process thoughts and emotions. Together, we will address your concerns and identify new strategies for progress. While I am adept at handling most issues presented to me, trauma-specific cases are beyond my scope of practice. For individuals seeking trauma counselling, I am equipped to assist with related issues initially and subsequently refer you to a specialised professional.

I strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance by spending time in nature and interacting with animals, which helps me stay refreshed and healthy. During a visit to Cumnock, I had the opportunity to get to know Gem, a Clydesdale horse. This gentle giant enjoyed being groomed and hugged, activities to which I gladly attended. As evidenced by my reaction, it was an absolute delight to spend time with her, and her presence brought me considerable joy.

Having personally overcome mental health challenges, I found counselling tremendously beneficial. Inspired by my counsellor, I pursued a career in this field to extend similar support to others. Driven by a desire to deepen my understanding of mental health and counselling methodologies, I commenced my studies in counselling at Borders College in 2018. Although resuming academic pursuits after a hiatus proved challenging, the subject matter captivated me, and through perseverance, my proficiency improved.

I now offer one to one counselling that recognises you are the expert about your experiences, my role is to support you in the here and now and help you to feel better. This is a process that can sometimes feel worse at the beginning, but over a sustained period of time, talking about your concerns in a supported and non-judgemental place can be so beneficial to your wellbeing.

When working from home, regular breaks and frequent trips to make coffee are part of the routine. Screen time is managed by occasionally looking out of the window. The flexibility of working from home provides opportunities to reflect on client needs and how best to support their development.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to their Ethical Guidelines and share their values. If you wish to check out these guidelines please click here.

I hold an HND in counselling, and I find my work deeply fulfilling as I assist individuals in need of support, observing their personal growth. My experience spans working with adults and young people within the charity sector across the Borders. While my specialisation lies in addressing anxiety and depression, I have also effectively supported clients dealing with stress, grief, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and relationship or family issues. Both my professional qualifications and personal life experiences have provided me with a distinctive perspective on mental health and wellbeing. I firmly believe that maintaining our own wellbeing is essential not only for ourselves but also for those around us.
